Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise is a village in the Tarentaise Valley in Savoie, France. The old village lies on the main road between Bourg-Saint-Maurice and Val d’Isère. About 4 km above the village (turning left at La Thuile) is the ski resort of Sainte Foy (referred as Sainte Foy Station).

Sainte Foy is nestled in one of the world’s premier ski regions, surrounded by giants like Les Arcs, Val d’Isère, La Plagne, Tignes, and La Rosière. Yet, it distinguishes itself as a unique ski destination. Smaller and more intimate, it offers high-quality experiences without the high-rise concrete blocks, instead opting for developments that respect the region’s timeless architectural style.

Renowned for its affordability, a six day lift pass costs a little over half of what you’d pay at larger neighbouring resorts.

While smaller in scale, Sainte Foy’s ski area caters to two distinct markets that often overlap. Its groomed runs are ideal for beginners, intermediates, and families, while its off-piste powder attracts expert freeriders. For mixed groups with diverse skiing abilities, Sainte Foy is perfect for reuniting between runs.

Here, you’ll find authentic, locally-run restaurants and shops, but not a wide variety or vibrant nightlife. For those seeking lively après-ski, other destinations might be better suited.

Getting here

Driving:  About 10 hours from Calais.

By plane:  Lyon or Geneva Airport.  From either airport, in winter there are minibus transfers direct to Sainte Foy Village (they stop on way to Val d’Isère). Alternatively, from either airport you can get a train to Bourg-Saint-Maurice (change at Chambèry). Then from Bourg take the bus to Sainte Foy Village (about 10 kms).  

Chambèry airport is actually closer, but very few flights.

Getting the key

Ask Clive for the code for the main building entrance door. Our apartment is up one flight, turn right and it's on the left No 9. Keysafe outside, ask Clive for the code. Use this to get in initially, and replace key immediately. From then on, use the keys that are hanging up in the hall.

On arrival:

If the electricity is off, you'll need to switch this on at the fuse box - small cupboard in hall. Then use the VERY small grey switch to turn the water immersion heater on. It will take a while for the tank to warm up. 

Parking

This is down the slope by the Navette (bus) stop. As you enter, it's a few spaces along on the left marked PARKING PRIVÉ APPARTEMENT G9. Also with a number 5 on the wall. There is only ONE space.

Accommodation

1 double bedroom room + 1 double room also with bunk beds.

Lounge with sofa-bed, and small kitchenette.

Bathroom with shower over bath, and washing machine. Separate toilet.

Ski locker

Come out of main building, turn left and left again down a few stairs. The entrance is on the left at the bottom of the stairs. Code to enter ski lockers is the same as for the main building. Enter the locker area, turn right and go along until it widens out. Our locker is marked ATKINS G9. Keys in hall.

Note: the lockers are not heated. It's OK to leave skis/snowboards there but carry boots up to the apartment to dry/warm.

IMPORTANT:  Skis/snowboards must go in the ski locker and not upstairs to the apartment. It is forbidden to wear ski/snowboard boots in the building, please carry them.

When heading out, the best option is to use ordinary shoes to collect your skis and to carry your boots to the entrance area. Then when ready to head out, just take your shoes up to the apartment and come back down in socks. Alternatively, come down in slippers (in hoover cupboard) and leave these in the POSTBOX in the entrance area, labelled: ATKINS G9.  Postbox key hanging up in hall but OK to leave unlocked.

Laundry

Plenty of bedding and towels, but please bring your own if you don’t want to wash these in the apartment. Or discuss with Clive.

Heating

Electric heaters in all rooms and a heated towel rail.

Water stop-cock

The water should be on, but in an emergency the main stopcock is downstairs, in the room straight ahead before climbing the stairs. It's marked G9. Turn horizontal for off.

TV/Audio

There is a smart TV with DVDs. There is a Bluetooth/CD/radio. No WiFi yet

Provisions in Apartment

There should be wine, tea, coffee, tins etc.

Rubbish

Bins about 50m down the road on the right, you can see these from the lounge windows.

When leaving

There is no cleaner - so please clean. Hoover is in cupboard by front door.

Remove rubbish and replace bin liner.

Switch all lights and heaters off, including towel rail.

If no is one coming after you, turn the fridge off and remove anything perishable. LEAVE FRIDGE DOOR OPEN. 

Switch hot water immersion heater off in fuse box (DOWN).

Hang all keys up, and lock front door with the key in key safe, and put back.
